X ends revenue sharing, launches new rewards for original content
X has unveiled a new rewards program for original content creators, ending its current revenue sharing scheme on September 7 and introducing stricter eligibility rules.
Key Takeaways
AIX announced today the launch of its Original Content Rewards Program, a new monetization system that rewards creators who share original ideas, expertise, reports, and commentary. The platform also said it is immediately closing applications for its current Revenue Sharing program, which will be fully discontinued by September 7.
According to X, "the best content on X goes beyond simply resharing what's already there — it adds something new." The company said the new program aims to "reward those who make the platform worth opening every day."
What changes for current beneficiaries?
Current Revenue Sharing participants will continue earning until September 7, 2026, with three final payouts scheduled: two on August 14 and 28, and a final payment around September 11. From September 8, eligible users can apply for the new program, provided they meet its requirements, with first payouts set for September 25. The first general payout for the new program will be issued on August 28.
How earnings work: only "qualified impressions" from subscribers
Creators will earn from "qualified impressions" on their original content, defined by X as unique views from paid Premium subscribers on the main timeline, where at least 50% of the post is visible. Duplicate, paid, artificial, or fraudulent impressions are excluded. Payments will be made every two weeks.
Eligibility requirements
Be at least 18 years old and reside in a country where the program is available.
Subscribe to Premium, Premium+, or Premium for Business.
Have at least 500 verified followers.
Achieve 500,000 impressions from verified users on the main timeline (excluding replies) in the past 90 days.
Maintain a clean account history and regularly post original content.
Applications are submitted through the Creator Studio and are reviewed within three business days. Applicants may appeal once and reapply after 90 days if rejected.
What counts as "original" content?
Eligible examples include original writing, series, reports, analysis, self-produced photos and videos, memes and designs, commentary that adds meaningful perspective, and content that fundamentally transforms existing material through context, analysis, satire, or creative editing.
Excluded are copied or re-uploaded content from other accounts, superficial edits (such as cropping, filters, or captions), reaction posts with no added value, AI-generated content, misleading posts or those flagged with a helpful Community Note, content focused solely on monetization tips, and repeated requests for likes, follows, or reposts.
