Beit Issa revives Arqa heritage with authentic Najdi experience in Riyadh

Beit Issa in the Arqa district of Riyadh brings Najdi life to the present, blending traditional architecture, crafts, hospitality, and folk arts to offer visitors a contemporary tourism experience rooted in the area's cultural and heritage diversity.

Located in the heart of Arqa—one of Riyadh’s oldest villages with a history spanning over a thousand years, known for its farms, mud-brick houses, and historic mosques—Beit Issa stands as a model for adaptive reuse of architectural heritage. The house was restored using local building materials and traditional techniques, with artisans involved in the renovation and preparation process.

The house features a range of spaces, including majlis rooms, cafés, heritage walkways, courtyards, and rooftops, creating a visual and social journey that evokes the Najdi environment. Elements such as mud, stone, wood, and traditional doors and windows are prominent throughout the building. Guests are welcomed in the majlis with Saudi coffee and can participate in craft workshops and artistic evenings.

Outside, the experience continues with facilities inspired by Najdi hospitality, heritage trails among palm and tamarisk trees, and the “Qaisariyah Al-Sana’a” market, where artisans and local families showcase their crafts live for visitors.

Diverse events and facilities

Beit Issa hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including National Day, Founding Day, Riyadh Summer activities, and programs focused on arts, fashion, and crafts. Folk arts, traditional clothing, and local cuisine are featured in the courtyards and majlis, reviving their social and cultural roles.

The site also includes a heritage inn inspired by Najdi architecture with modern amenities, allowing guests to stay overnight and experience the atmosphere from tranquil mornings to evenings on rooftops overlooking Arqa’s palm groves.

Growing popularity and digital presence

According to village data, Beit Issa has welcomed over 15,000 visitors since its opening, with more than 50 local families participating in its activities. Over 20 production companies have used the site for filming, and digital interactions related to the location have surpassed three million, reflecting its expanding reach and diverse uses.

Beit Issa is highlighted among the destinations promoted by “Spirit of Saudi Arabia,” offering Riyadh a new face that tells the story of the place through architecture, crafts, hospitality, and arts, and giving heritage a renewed presence among visitors.
