The Ministry of Health has reported an increase in respiratory infections with the onset of the seasonal activity of respiratory viruses, noting that this rise falls within expected seasonal patterns.

The ministry explained that the past three weeks saw a 30% increase in intensive care unit admissions linked to respiratory infections compared to the previous period, coinciding with heightened activity of several viruses this season.

The Health Ministry urged the public to receive recommended vaccines, such as the seasonal influenza vaccine and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine for targeted groups, by booking appointments through the "Sehhaty" app, to help reduce the risk of severe illness and complications from infection.

Preventive measures and at-risk groups

The ministry emphasized the importance of preventive steps, including maintaining hand hygiene, observing proper cough and sneeze etiquette, ventilating enclosed spaces, wearing masks, and minimizing contact with others when experiencing respiratory symptoms, to protect public health and limit the spread of infection.

It noted that those most at risk of flu complications include people with chronic diseases, individuals over 50 years old, children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, people with severe obesity, and healthcare workers.

In this context, the Ministry of Health continues its efforts, in coordination with other health system entities, to strengthen preventive health and raise public awareness, contributing to the protection and well-being of the community and improving quality of life.
