Saudi Food and Drug Authority clarifies sugar label terms on food products

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority has clarified that sugar-related terms on food product labels have different meanings, helping consumers understand sugar content and make more informed dietary choices.

The authority stated on X that the term "Low Sugar" means the product contains no more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 grams, or 2.5 grams per 100 milliliters.

It added that "Reduced Sugar" indicates the product has less sugar compared to similar products.

The authority continued: The label "Sugar Free" means the product contains no more than 0.5 grams of sugar per 100 grams or 0.5 grams per 100 milliliters.

Meanwhile, "No Added Sugar" means no sugar has been added to the product, though it may naturally contain sugar.
