Italy to deport migrant accused of desecrating national flag

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has announced that a migrant will be deported after desecrating the Italian flag.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Piantedosi said authorities had identified the foreign national, an undocumented migrant, who tore down a flag from a wall in Florence and threw it to the ground, thereby insulting the Italian national symbol.

Piantedosi added that the individual has been transferred to a temporary migrant reception center, where he will be held until his deportation to his country of origin.

The interior minister stressed the importance of respecting Italian laws, stating: "Above all, we must honor and respect the symbols that represent the deepest values of our democracy."
