Arfaj plant boosts vegetation in King Salman Royal Reserve

The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve is home to a rich diversity of native plant life, with the arfaj plant standing out as a key contributor to the reserve’s vegetation, particularly in shallow sandy environments.

The arfaj serves as a natural refuge and safe haven for wildlife, highlighting its crucial role in the reserve’s ecosystem. The reserve’s development authority has emphasized its special focus on protecting and nurturing this plant as part of ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance local vegetation.

Belonging to the Asteraceae family, the arfaj is a shrub widely found in the Khunfah and Al-Tubaiq areas of the reserve. It can grow up to 70 centimeters tall and is characterized by intricately branched woody stems, lance-shaped basal leaves, and small, spaced upper leaves. Its flowers add a distinctive beauty to the reserve’s landscape.
