Dr. Saleh Al-Ghamdi, a cardiology and hypertension consultant, has warned of the health risks and negative effects of completely eliminating salt from the diet as a preventive measure.

Writing on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Al-Ghamdi explained that such a practice can lead to sudden drops in blood pressure, palpitations, feeling cold, and dizziness when standing after sitting for a long period.

He emphasized that the body needs sodium to regulate hemodynamics and fluid balance. Al-Ghamdi pointed out that the greatest threats to heart, kidney, and arterial health are not moderate salt intake, but rather processed foods such as chips and cold cuts, sugars and hidden sugars, and hydrogenated oils.

He stressed that smart prevention means moderation and reducing salty foods, not total deprivation.
