AIThe Saudi Food and Drug Authority has emphasized that reading nutrition labels and comparing products helps consumers understand sugar content and make informed dietary choices.
In a statement on the X platform, the authority added that consumers can identify the sugar content in packaged foods and meals by reading the nutrition information on the product label and reviewing the list of ingredients.
The authority noted that sugar may appear under various names on food products, including: brown sugar, custard, concentrated fruit juice, sucralose, fructose, glucose, dextrose, dextrin sugar, ethyl lactose, molasses, lactose, corn syrup, and caramel.
The authority also advised using the color-coded indicator to compare food products, as it helps consumers easily identify and compare sugar content. Green indicates low sugar, orange indicates moderate sugar, and red indicates high sugar content.
The authority further stressed the importance of checking both sugar and added sugar content when purchasing food products from online stores and food delivery apps. Reviewing additional nutrition information and menus allows consumers to determine the amount of sugar and added sugars in meals.
