Saudi entertainment events attract 45.7 million visitors in H1 2026

Entertainment events and activities in Saudi Arabia attracted 45.7 million visitors during the first half of 2026, as the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) continues to strengthen the sector through a series of regulatory and oversight initiatives. These efforts have improved sector efficiency, enhanced service quality, and enriched the experience for both investors and visitors, supporting the rapid growth of entertainment and advancing the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to build a sustainable, investment-friendly economy.

The GEA has made notable progress in regulation, issuing over 2,500 licenses for entertainment and supporting activities. This expansion reflects the sector’s growing scope and investment volume, while a flexible regulatory environment has made it easier to conduct business according to the highest approved standards.

To boost compliance and service quality, the authority conducted more than 8,500 inspections across various entertainment activities nationwide. These visits aimed to ensure adherence to regulations, guarantee service quality, and raise safety and operational standards, thereby reinforcing trust among visitors and investors.

The GEA has also worked to streamline government procedures related to the sector, coordinating with 29 government entities. This collaboration has simplified the investor journey, accelerated regulatory processes, and enhanced cooperation between relevant bodies, resulting in a more efficient and flexible entertainment sector.

In terms of classification, the authority issued 1,127 classification certificates in the first half of 2026 as part of its approved classification system for entertainment activities. This initiative aims to raise service standards, unify quality benchmarks, and encourage businesses to adopt best operational practices.

Sector indicators highlight significant growth, with more than 7,200 companies now operating in entertainment. This underscores the sector’s increasing attractiveness to investors and the ongoing expansion of entertainment activities across the Kingdom, supported by an advanced and growth-oriented regulatory environment.

On the performance front, the authority recorded a 96% general satisfaction rate for entertainment activities included in its assessments. This reflects the success of efforts to improve the visitor experience and raise service standards at various events and venues.

The GEA enabled over 400 investors to benefit from visitor experience measurement tools, allowing them to access performance indicators, analyze visitor behavior, and make data-driven development decisions to enhance quality and investment efficiency in the sector.

Additionally, the authority prepared more than 900 reports on visitor satisfaction and experience, providing a knowledge base to support decision-making, develop entertainment products and activities, and continuously improve operational performance using measurable indicators.

To further enhance user experience, the authority addressed 586 complaints during the second quarter of 2026 through follow-up and response mechanisms aimed at resolving issues, improving service levels, and strengthening communication with beneficiaries, thereby promoting transparency and a culture of continuous improvement.

Majed bin Khalid Al-Gharabi, head of the regulatory affairs sector at the authority, said these results reflect the GEA’s role in building a comprehensive regulatory system that does not stop at issuing licenses, but extends to developing legislation, raising service quality, enhancing oversight, measuring performance, and empowering investors. This, he noted, helps solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing entertainment markets and boosts the sector’s competitiveness as one of the main drivers of the national economy and quality of life.

He added: "The authority, guided by the leadership and under the supervision of General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki bin Abdulmohsen Al-Sheikh, is working to create a supportive legislative environment for the private sector to deliver diverse entertainment events and activities. This supports the objectives of Vision 2030 and makes the sector attractive to both local and international investors, expanding economic activities that will have a significant positive impact on the Kingdom."
