Red Sea Museum launches summer camp focused on science and innovation

The Red Sea Museum has launched its summer camp under the theme 'Science and Innovation,' offering a five-day interactive educational experience that runs until August 29. The camp targets children aged 10 to 14, introducing them to marine sciences, engineering, programming, robotics, and environmental research through hands-on activities that blend scientific exploration with learning inside the museum.

The camp provides a comprehensive educational journey combining scientific research, practical experiments, engineering design, programming, and museum exploration. Participants will experience activities that simulate the work of researchers, engineers, and innovators, while discovering the Red Sea’s ecosystems, biodiversity, and maritime heritage, as well as learning about key environmental challenges facing the region.

The five-day program begins with an exploration of the 'Geography, Formation, and Biodiversity of the Red Sea,' where participants build an interactive map of the Red Sea and program robots to simulate fish migration patterns between ecosystems.

On the second day, participants delve into the 'World of Coral Reefs, Marine Life, and Adaptation,' learning about coral reef environments and constructing models, while using programming to simulate reef health indicators and the effects of bleaching, pollution, and heat stress.

The third day focuses on the 'Chemistry of the Sea, Pollution, and Climate Change,' with experiments to test water quality, study salinity, pH, temperature, and pollution indicators, analyze data, and design prototypes for environmental monitoring technologies.

On the fourth day, participants are introduced to 'Underwater Exploration Technologies, Mapping, and Marine Archaeology.' Working in teams, they design and build vehicles inspired by underwater exploration craft and carry out exploratory tasks using programming and engineering techniques.

The camp concludes on the fifth day with the 'Red Sea Science Challenge,' where teams apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the camp to develop innovative solutions to environmental issues such as coral reef conservation, combating marine pollution, biodiversity monitoring, sustainable fisheries, and citizen science initiatives.

Participants will have the opportunity to present their projects and prototypes to families, museum staff, facilitators, and guests in a finale that showcases research findings, scientific experiments, and innovative solutions, helping to build confidence, scientific communication, and teamwork skills.

The Science and Innovation Summer Camp is part of the Red Sea Museum’s ongoing efforts to offer interactive educational experiences that connect scientific knowledge with maritime heritage and the local environment, providing young people with opportunities to discover science, technology, engineering, and innovation through hands-on learning and exploration.
