Expert outlines new regulations for installing car canopies

Saud Al-Dalbahi, a consulting engineer and arbitration expert, revealed on Al Arabiya FM the technical and regulatory requirements set by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing for installing car canopies within property boundaries. He explained that these rules aim to regulate the use of facilities, enhance urban integration, and reduce violations and unauthorized structures.

Al-Dalbahi stated that the requirements include specific standards for the design, location, and materials used for car canopies, with strict adherence to the Saudi Building Code and universal accessibility standards. This includes consideration for pedestrian pathways and entrances for people with disabilities.

He noted that the regulations also cover requirements related to space, setbacks, canopy projection limits, and height. Covering the sides, using unapproved materials, or encroaching on sidewalks and pedestrian routes are prohibited. Designs must visually integrate with the architectural style of the building and surrounding area.

Al-Dalbahi added that the requirements include several general rules, most notably the need to display an identification card on the canopy with a code containing permit details, maintain site cleanliness and sidewalk safety, unify canopy designs within the same building, and conduct regular maintenance.

He emphasized that permit holders bear full legal responsibility for the canopy and any resulting obligations, and must comply with universal accessibility requirements approved by the National Center for Building Codes.
