Death toll from Nepal-China floods rises to 804

The death toll from catastrophic flash floods along the Nepal-China border has risen to more than 800, as fresh warnings of floods and landslides continue to be issued.

Nepalese police reported that 788 bodies have been recovered so far, while China has confirmed 16 deaths in Tibet, bringing the total number of confirmed fatalities to 804. More than 3,000 people remain missing on both sides of the border, including hundreds of foreigners.

Police explained that a landslide has closed a major highway linking Kathmandu to southern Nepal, raising concerns about potential supply shortages as relief efforts continue. The road runs alongside a river that has overflowed its banks and is a key transport link between the capital and the south of the country.
