Kuwait registered 11 cases of the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total to 266.

Health Minister Dr. Sheikh Bassel Al-Sabah said three Kuwaiti nationals and two foreign residents recovered from the virus, raising the figure to 72.

More than 720,000 people have been infected by the novel coronavirus across the world and 33,969 have died, according to a Reuters tally.

The virus causes mild symptoms, including fever and cough, in most patients, who recover within a few weeks. But it is highly contagious and can be spread by people showing no symptoms. It can also cause severe illness and death, particularly in older patients or those with underlying health problems.
