The number of flights coming to Saudi Arabia during the period between January and August rose 11% in 2019 compared to last year, with a total expenditure of SAR77.3bn and an increase of 12% from 2018. While domestic tourism trips rose 3.4% during the same period (January-August), the rate of domestic tourism spending amounted to SAR33.8bn, with an increase of 7.8%, according to the Tourism Information and Research Center (MAS) of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH)
MAS revealed in early October, through Twitter, that the incoming flights to Riyadh from outside Saudi Arabia in 2018 amounted to 2 million trips with a total spending exceeded SAR12bn, while domestic flights to the same destination amounted to 4.3 million trips with a total spending exceeded SAR6bn.
According to the sources of indicators provided by MAS, the month of August was the most active tourist months of the year to become the most months in the incoming and domestic tourism trips, the highest months in the rate of tourism spending.
These figures are expected to break new records in the next two months as the Riyadh season launches in the capital, Riyadh from October 11 to December 15.
