US energy secretary: 9 million barrels per day flow through Strait of Hormuz

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has announced that oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz remain at elevated levels, with an average of around 9 million barrels per day passing through the strait over the past seven days.

Wright explained on Tuesday that total oil flows rise to about 15 million barrels per day when including an additional 5 to 7 million barrels per day transported via pipelines and newly upgraded export facilities.

Wright said: “With the addition of 5 to 7 million barrels per day moving out of the region through pipelines and recently upgraded export facilities, total oil flows currently reach about 15 million barrels per day. On Sunday alone, more than 20 million barrels left the Gulf region, exceeding the pre-conflict average.”

Meanwhile, Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Tehran’s conditions are met.
