Royal Commission for AlUla Participates in IUCN Leaders Forum Geneva 2023
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is participating in the second International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Leaders Forum, being held in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 11 to 13, under the theme "Global goals for nature: tracking progress, financing success".
The IUCN Leaders Forum is slated to tackle mechanisms for preserving biodiversity, restoring natural habitats, and finding ways for member states to cooperate and exchange experience to achieve common goals and build capacities.
RCU is expected to discuss topics related to nature protection, most notably sustainability and innovation in environmental protection, and ways to raise awareness among communities.
RCU was granted government-membership status by IUCN in February 2022 in recognition of its commitment to protect the natural environment in AlUla through creating and activating nature reserves, managing natural heritage, according to the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, and supporting wildlife management and restoration, in line with the Saudi Green Initiative, which is one of the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
