US stocks close lower as chipmaker shares extend losses

Major Wall Street indexes closed lower on Tuesday as losses in semiconductor stocks persisted.

The S&P 500 index slipped 0.02% to finish at 7,805.45 points, while the Nasdaq dropped 0.15% to 27,204.38 points.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.35% to close at 51,670.10 points.
