SFDA launches ProVerifier smart product tool at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh

Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey, President of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, on Tuesday launched the smart product verification tool "ProVerifier" during the authority’s participation in the fifth edition of LEAP 2026, held in Riyadh from August 31 to September 3 under the theme "Tomorrow’s Horizons, Closer Today."

The launch was attended by Ahmed bin Mohammed Alsuwaiyan, Governor of the Digital Government Authority, along with technology sector leaders, companies, and innovators from Saudi Arabia and around the world.

Features of the smart tool

Dr. Aljadhey explained that the new tool was developed by national talent within the authority’s artificial intelligence lab, SAIL, to serve as an intelligent assistant for field inspectors, enabling them to make regulatory decisions with greater speed and accuracy.

He noted that the introduction of ProVerifier is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the regulatory system by leveraging data and artificial intelligence technologies, providing inspectors with essential information before and during fieldwork, and accelerating procedures without compromising the quality of regulatory decisions.

How it works and expected impact

The tool analyzes a single image of a product’s packaging or label, automatically extracting its data and matching it against approved regulations and standards. It then delivers an AI-generated advisory result within seconds.

This service aims to improve the efficiency of regulatory operations, standardize verification criteria across the organization, reduce inspection time and operational burden, enhance product safety, and accelerate clearance while ensuring consistent regulatory treatment at all entry points.

The initial phase of the tool will cover pharmaceuticals, health products, and cosmetics, with plans to expand to food products and medical devices in the future.

Faster procedures and support for national talent

The authority aims to reduce product verification time by up to 98 percent, with response times ranging from 6 to 20 seconds. This will enable inspectors to handle more products per round, boost regulatory efficiency, and focus resources on priority risks.

This initiative is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to advance its regulatory system through modern technology and innovation, enhancing operational efficiency, empowering national talent, and ensuring a sustainable impact on public health and product safety.
