Saudi Arabia records 255 million point-of-sale transactions in a week, totaling SAR 15.8 billion

The Saudi Central Bank's weekly point-of-sale bulletin showed that the number of point-of-sale transactions in the Kingdom reached 255,384,000 during the period from August 23 to 29, 2026, with a total value exceeding SAR 15,799,402,000, compared to SAR 14,173,199,000 the previous week.

The restaurants and cafes sector led in transaction volume, with 59,663,000 transactions valued at SAR 1,778,998,000, followed by the food and beverages sector with 59,134,000 transactions worth SAR 2,585,016,000, and the transport sector with 7,401,000 transactions totaling SAR 1,133,137,000.

The clothing and accessories sector recorded 11,643,000 transactions valued at SAR 1,414,110,000, while fuel stations saw 18,958,000 transactions worth SAR 1,072,702,000. Furniture and home supplies accounted for 2,678,000 transactions at SAR 430,019,000, and the health sector registered 10,057,000 transactions totaling SAR 894,237,000.

Transactions by city

Riyadh topped Saudi cities in both the number and value of point-of-sale transactions during the week, with 83,537,000 transactions amounting to SAR 5,498,452,000. Jeddah followed with 28,191,000 transactions worth SAR 2,113,142,000. Dammam recorded 9,977,000 transactions at SAR 764,041,000, while Makkah saw 9,678,000 transactions valued at SAR 626,142,000, and Madinah had 9,646,000 transactions totaling SAR 618,065,000.

Other cities included Buraidah with 5,633,000 transactions at SAR 392,099,000, Alkhobar with 5,055,000 transactions at SAR 437,396,000, Tabuk with 4,960,000 transactions at SAR 284,579,000, Hail with 4,396,000 transactions at SAR 248,640,000, and Abha with 3,672,000 transactions at SAR 215,221,000. The remaining cities accounted for 28,043,000 transactions valued at SAR 1,155,678,000.

Other sectors

The bulletin indicated that the professional and commercial services sector recorded 16,056,000 transactions worth SAR 872,810,000, while the electronics and electrical appliances sector saw 2,111,000 transactions at SAR 196,854,000. The building materials and construction sector accounted for 3,027,000 transactions valued at SAR 393,608,000, and the jewelry sector had 283,000 transactions totaling SAR 275,619,000.

The education sector recorded 322,000 transactions valued at SAR 1,095,998,000, the telecommunications sector had 5,411,000 transactions at SAR 208,280,000, and the utilities and public services sector saw 862,000 transactions worth SAR 59,372,000. Laundry services recorded 3,113,000 transactions at SAR 63,641,000, while other transactions totaled 42,809,000 at SAR 2,363,093,000.
