Saudi POS transactions top 237 million, exceed SAR 14 billion in a week

Point-of-sale transactions in Saudi Arabia reached 237,347,000 between August 16 and 22, 2026, with a total value of SAR 14,173,199,000, according to the weekly report from the Saudi Central Bank.

The report noted that the value of POS transactions saw a slight decrease compared to the previous week, when the total reached SAR 14,191,529,000.

Breakdown by sector

Restaurants and cafes led all sectors with 56,770,000 transactions worth SAR 1,667,771,000, followed by food and beverages with 55,696,000 transactions valued at SAR 2,105,374,000. The transport sector recorded 6,621,000 transactions worth SAR 1,037,326,000, while the health sector saw 9,251,000 transactions totaling SAR 798,524,000.

The clothing and accessories sector registered 10,500,000 transactions worth SAR 1,264,656,000, while jewelry accounted for 258,000 transactions valued at SAR 301,506,000. The education sector saw 250,000 transactions totaling SAR 1,043,397,000.

Fuel stations recorded 17,417,000 transactions worth SAR 960,405,000, and electronics and electrical appliances saw 1,945,000 transactions valued at SAR 188,087,000. Laundry services registered 2,746,000 transactions worth SAR 49,818,000.

Breakdown by city

Riyadh led all cities with 77,930,000 transactions worth SAR 5,127,429,000, followed by Jeddah with 26,223,000 transactions totaling SAR 1,797,653,000, and Dammam with 9,219,000 transactions worth SAR 712,782,000.

Mecca recorded 8,989,000 transactions valued at SAR 534,036,000, and Madinah saw 8,811,000 transactions worth SAR 519,311,000. Other cities accounted for 26,413,000 transactions totaling SAR 1,042,334,000.

Additionally, other uncategorized transactions reached 39,263,000, with a value of SAR 2,067,797,000 during the same period.
