Saudi POS transactions top 237 million, SAR 14 billion in a week

Point-of-sale transactions in Saudi Arabia reached 237,347,000, with a total value of SAR 14,173,199,000, during the period from August 16 to 22, 2026, according to the weekly report issued by the Saudi Central Bank.

The report noted that the value of POS transactions saw a slight decrease compared to the previous week, when the total reached SAR 14,191,529,000.

Transactions by sector

Restaurants and cafes were the most active sector, recording 56,770,000 transactions worth SAR 1,667,771,000, followed by food and beverages with 55,696,000 transactions valued at SAR 2,105,374,000. The transport sector saw 6,621,000 transactions totaling SAR 1,037,326,000, while the health sector recorded 9,251,000 transactions worth SAR 798,524,000.

The clothing and accessories sector registered 10,500,000 transactions valued at SAR 1,264,656,000, while jewelry saw 258,000 transactions worth SAR 301,506,000. The education sector recorded 250,000 transactions totaling SAR 1,043,397,000.

Fuel stations accounted for 17,417,000 transactions worth SAR 960,405,000, and electronics and electrical appliances saw 1,945,000 transactions valued at SAR 188,087,000. Laundry services recorded 2,746,000 transactions worth SAR 49,818,000.

Transactions by city

By city, Riyadh led with 77,930,000 transactions valued at SAR 5,127,429,000, followed by Jeddah with 26,223,000 transactions worth SAR 1,797,653,000, and Dammam with 9,219,000 transactions totaling SAR 712,782,000.

Mecca recorded 8,989,000 transactions worth SAR 534,036,000, and Madinah saw 8,811,000 transactions valued at SAR 519,311,000. Other cities accounted for 26,413,000 transactions worth SAR 1,042,334,000.

It is also noted that uncategorized transactions totaled 39,263,000, with a value of SAR 2,067,797,000 during the same period.
