Ali Al-Riyami, former director general of oil and gas marketing at the Omani Ministry of Energy, said the diesel crisis is global and the impact of easing sanctions on Russia is limited.

Speaking to Asharq Bloomberg, Al-Riyami added that diesel is the real crisis facing the world today, and the US decision to delay or suspend sanctions may have only a limited effect because the issue is global in nature.

He noted that Russia faces domestic challenges with its oil refineries, which have been hit by new Ukrainian strikes. This means the problem of refinery targeting remains, regardless of whether Moscow is allowed to export diesel or not.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump agreed on Moscow’s return to global diesel exports, amid concerns over rising prices following Russia’s earlier decision to halt exports.
