The Eastern Province Municipality has announced a range of investment opportunities aimed at converting waste into economic and environmental value to support the circular economy. These initiatives include the collection, transport, sorting, processing, and recycling of waste, opening the door for the private sector to develop innovative solutions that improve service efficiency and maximize resource utilization.

Spokesman Faisal Al-Zahrani explained that, with support from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, the municipality has launched several investment projects. These include initiatives for processing slaughterhouse waste, recycling construction and demolition debris, and sorting waste, as well as specialized projects for recycling organic waste, used oils, scrap tires, electronic waste, and spent batteries.

He highlighted a project to utilize landfill sites in Dammam, which involves investing in methane gas emitted from landfills to produce biofuel and green hydrogen, transforming waste into an energy source and enhancing its economic and environmental benefits. Other projects include recycling construction and demolition waste into materials for asphalt mixtures, road layers, and construction sectors, and a project to process livestock and poultry slaughterhouse waste in Dammam. This latter opportunity covers an area of 10,000 square meters and has a processing capacity of up to 30,000 tons annually.

Al-Zahrani noted that these projects help transform waste from materials requiring disposal into valuable economic resources by reusing them in new industries and products. This supports the circular economy, reduces random dumping, preserves the environment, and improves quality of life. He emphasized that these opportunities promote investment in environmental projects and attract innovative solutions that contribute to building a more efficient and sustainable waste management system, turning environmental challenges into promising economic and investment opportunities.
