Key Takeaways
AIUnder the patronage of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Energy has launched the idea submission phase for the first edition of the Energy Hackathon, under the slogan "Ignite Your Ideas." The event is scheduled to take place at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh from October 7 to 9, 2026 (26–28 Rabi Al-Akhir 1448 AH). The initiative aims to engage young minds and industry experts in developing innovative solutions to help shape the future of energy.
The launch of the hackathon coincides with Saudi Arabia hosting the 25th World Petroleum Congress, themed "The path toward a future of energy for all." This underscores the Kingdom's prominent role in the energy sector and aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The hackathon aims to address six challenges across three main tracks. The first track focuses on operational efficiency, including enhancing inspection processes at oil and gas facilities and ensuring grid stability as renewable energy sources are integrated. The second track covers innovative designs for smart fuel stations and the development of hydrogen storage technologies. The third and final track involves smart control systems for predicting grid failures and managing electrical loads.
Participants in the hackathon will benefit from a comprehensive innovation environment, including specialized workshops and mentoring sessions led by experts. The process will culminate in the development and evaluation of prototypes, with outstanding projects receiving further entrepreneurial support after the event.
Winners will be honored at the hackathon's closing ceremony, which will be held alongside the conclusion of the World Petroleum Congress at Riyadh Front Exhibition and Conference Center.
