The Heritage Commission has registered 253 new archaeological and historical sites in the National Antiquities Register as part of its efforts to explore, document, register and maintain archaeological and historical sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

CEO of the Heritage Commission Dr. Jasser Al-Harbash noted that the archaeological sites that were registered included 141 sites in Aseer and 112 sites in Hail, representing architectural units and facilities with various patterns and a large amount of inscription, drawings and old rock tags that date to pre-history ages, in addition to some Islamic inscriptions and writings.

Dr. Al-Harbash stressed that the commission is moving ahead with steady steps to document historical and archaeological sites in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and register them in the National Antiquities Register and archive and digitalize them before containing them in a modern digital register that serve the civil heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, calling on citizens and interested people to report explored archaeological sites through the "Balagh" platform, the commission's Twitter account and commission branches across regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, commending the awareness of citizens and their role as a main partner in preserving and caring for the national heritage.

The Heritage Commission, while registering the newly discovered archeological sites in Aseer and Hail, relied on Paragraph 2 of Item 8 of the Antiquities, Museums and Urban Heritage Bylaw, which stipulates: "The commission shall prepare registration lists of archaeological sites".
