Aquaculture sector measured by up to five production cycles, official says
Saudi aquaculture performance is assessed over four to five production cycles, not just one, according to the Ministry of Environment’s aquaculture director.
Key Takeaways
AIFaris Al-Ghamdi, Director of Aquaculture at the Ministry of Environment, said the aquaculture sector is measured by four to five production cycles.
Speaking in an interview aired on Al Ekhbariya TV, Al-Ghamdi explained that understanding the nature and duration of aquaculture is essential for recovering capital, as it is primarily a technical and productive investment.
He added that aquaculture offers significant returns but requires substantial capital and strong commitment from partners to invest in all related infrastructure and investment aspects. He noted that performance cannot be judged by a single production cycle, as some cycles are affected by market risks, prices, and other influencing factors.
Al-Ghamdi also highlighted that fish production requires investment in hatcheries that produce fry, cooperation with feed factories supplying fish feed, and facilities handling post-production stages, in addition to supply chains, transportation, and marketing.
