General Authority for Roads Says Kingdom’s Roads Ready to Receive Visitors, Umrah Performers during Ramadan

The General Authority for Roads has completed its preparations and operational plans, and its technical, specialized, personnel is ready to serve visitors during Ramadan by securing safe and smooth access for Umrah performers and worshippers in order to enhance their experience and achieve the Saudi Vision 2030 goal of receiving 30 million Umrah performers by 2030.

The authority pointed out that it had started preparations for this year’s Umrah season early by assessing the situation of over 7,000 kilometers of roads leading to the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah, to ensure that they meet all safety and quality standards.

It also said that it repaved 174 kilometers of roads, rehabilitated more than 8,600 kilometers, removing over 716,000 cubic meters of sand, cleaned around 4,000 drainage channels, made sure concrete and metal barriers are safe, and guidance and warning signs are visible.

These efforts contribute to improving the safety and readiness of the road network, in line with the road sector's strategy, which envisages the Kingdom ranking sixth globally in the Road Quality Index, and reducing the number of road fatalities to less than five cases per 100,000 population.

It also aims to install traffic safety elements on the road network, according to the International Road Assessment Program (IRAP), constantly service the road network, and increase the private sector’s participation in its operational activities to 20%.

These efforts will help boost the Kingdom's position as a global logistics center.
