Riyadh hosted the signing of a memorandum of understanding today between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at enhancing strategic cooperation in electricity and rail connectivity, as well as supporting infrastructure integration between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, who also serves as Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, and UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi.

Both sides stated that the memorandum covers general principles for electricity interconnection and the exchange and sale of electricity between the two countries. It also includes the implementation of necessary technical, economic, and environmental studies, and coordination with Gulf Cooperation Council member states to expand the Gulf electricity grid, thereby improving energy system efficiency and regional integration.

Boosting logistics and economic integration

The memorandum also sets out general principles for rail connectivity to enable two-way transport and transit of goods, aiming to enhance logistics integration, improve supply chain efficiency, and support economic development and regional integration opportunities between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
