OPEC chief: Maritime security challenges met with proactive solutions

OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais said that developments related to the security of maritime corridors have been addressed with proactive solutions.

Al Ghais added that the recent challenges to maritime security in the Middle East are temporary, noting that member states have demonstrated significant resilience and a longstanding commitment as reliable suppliers. He emphasized that oil remains essential to daily life and that diplomacy is the best path to lasting solutions, according to the Qatar News Agency.

The OPEC Secretary-General also expressed strong confidence in the organization's decisions, predicting that future economic historians will highly value the pivotal and positive role played by the OPEC+ alliance in shielding the global economy from severe energy supply fluctuations.

Al Ghais further forecast that global oil demand will grow by 600,000 barrels per day in 2026, driven by economies in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. He also expects oil liquids production outside the OPEC+ alliance to expand by 600,000 barrels per day, reaching 54.8 million barrels per day, led by Brazil, the United States, Canada, and Argentina.
