Trump aims to make US economy world’s most competitive, says treasury secretary

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said President Donald Trump is focused on enhancing the competitiveness of the American economy and ensuring equal opportunities for businesses and workers in the United States, following decades of what he described as neglectful policies in Washington.

In a post on X, Besant added that achieving sustainable economic growth requires fair competition among economies, based on productivity, innovation, and investment, rather than what he called "distorted" policies that push surplus production into global markets.

The treasury secretary noted that the Trump administration aims to build a more dynamic and competitive US economy, with a focus on protecting the interests of American companies and workers and ensuring an economic environment based on fair competition.
