Unified procurement classification guide launched to boost transparency

As part of efforts to establish a common language and enhance transparency in procurement, the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority has announced the launch of the Unified Procurement Classification (UPC) guide. This strategic initiative aims to keep pace with developments and needs in the local market, align with global procurement classification practices, provide a unified reference for classifying goods and services, and improve data management and precise spending analysis.

Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Semari, CEO of the Authority, stated that this step builds on the Authority’s ongoing efforts to achieve its strategic objectives. He noted that the guide is a key tool for supporting national industries by structuring and accurately classifying procurement data, and by standardizing names and terms for all goods and services.

The Authority plans to apply the Unified Procurement Classification guide across several of its operations and regulatory tools, including the mandatory list, to further strengthen local content and improve the efficiency of the procurement system.
