The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asumi, welcomed the agreement made between the Government of Somalia and the heads of the federal regions to set the dates for holding parliamentary elections during July and August of this year.

The agreement leads to holding the presidential elections on the tenth of October, noting that this step came as a commitment by all parties to the agreement which was signed on the 27th of last May regarding the holding of presidential and legislative elections within 60 days from the date of this agreement.

In a statement today, Al-Asumi praised the spirit of national responsibility that all political parties showed in order to abide by this agreement and reach this important step because it will have direct repercussions on achieving security and stability and strengthening national unity in Somalia.
